Ivry-sur-le-Lac is a peaceful, nature-focused community wrapped around the prized waters of Lac Manitou, just minutes from Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. With deep historical roots and a long tradition as a resort haven for Montrealers, it remains one of the Laurentians' most sought-after addresses for premium lakefront.
Notable lakes & waterways: Lac Manitou.
First settled in 1852 by Paul Meunier and Angélique Godon, Ivry-sur-le-Lac flourished after the railway reached neighbouring Sainte-Agathe, drawing a wealthy elite to the shores of Lac Manitou.
In 1891, Countess Angela Ogier d'Ivry of Le Mans, France, bought a farm for her son, Viscount Raoul Ogier d'Ivry, who settled here in 1892. He first called the area Lac-Manitou; when the municipality was incorporated in 1912, residents chose to honour the Viscount by naming it Ivry-sur-le-Lac.
With the arrival of the railway, the village became a premium resort destination for wealthy Montrealers and Americans, with iconic retreats like the historic Manitou Lodge catering to the era.
Briefly amalgamated with Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts in 2002, Ivry-sur-le-Lac voted to demerge and re-established itself as an independent municipality in 2006. Today its history and natural beauty remain carefully preserved — a quiet, scenic place on one of the region's most coveted lakes.
As with anywhere in the Laurentians, a few local factors shape value here: the specific lake and its motor rules, whether the property has four-season municipal road access or a private road, and the condition of the well and septic system. Shoreline protection rules (the riparian strip, littoral and flood zones) also affect what you can build or modify near the water.
